When it comes to eyebrows, there's much more than just tweezing or filling them in with a pencil. Two techniques that have been making waves are Combination Brows and PhiBrows. Let's break them down in simple terms.
Combination Brows
Combination Brows is a unique technique offered at Elizabeth Oakes Permanent Makeup Clinics.
Our Combination Brows technique combines PhiBrows and light shading in the background, to create a fuller more defined brow. This technique is perfect for individuals with sparse or uneven brows, individuals with coarse hair or individuals who are missing the tail of their brow and want a more defined look. The combination of PhiBrows and shading creates a multi-dimensional effect that looks very natural.
PhiBrows
PhiBrows is a manual skill of permanent eyebrow. The shape of the eyebrows is calculated according to the golden intersection (phi 1.618) and face morphology. The PhiBrows pigment is selected to match the natural hair or eyebrow colour.

Strokes are always drawn in the direction of natural hair growth to achieve a hyper-realistic look.
Â
These eyebrows are also referred to as feather eyebrows, three-dimensional brows, and eyebrow embroidery.
PhiBrows, a technique developed by world-renowned artist Branko Babic, is a permanent microblading method that creates hyper-realistic hair strokes using a manual hand-held tool. The technique involves mapping out the individual's eyebrows based on their facial features and creating individual hair strokes to mimic the natural growth of eyebrow hair.
Which Technique is Right for You?
Choosing between PhiBrows and Combination Brows depends on your style, skin type, and the look you wish to achieve.
Here's a quick guide to help you decide:
PhiBrows:
Natural Look Seekers: If you prefer a subtle enhancement that mimics the natural growth of your eyebrow hair, PhiBrows is ideal.
Those with Fine or Light Eyebrows: The hyper-realistic hair strokes created with PhiBrows blend seamlessly with your natural brows, making it perfect for those with fine or light eyebrow hair.
Precision Lovers: If you appreciate precision and meticulous attention to detail, you will love the accuracy of PhiBrows.
Combination Brows:
Individuals with Sparse or Uneven Brows:Â If you have sparse or uneven brows, Combination Brows can create the appearance of fuller, more balanced brows.
Those with Coarse Hair:Â For those with coarse eyebrow hair, this technique adds depth and dimension.
Anyone Missing the Tail of Their Brow:Â If you are missing the tail of your brow, Combination Brows can provide the definition and fullness you desire.
At Elizabeth Permanent Makeup Clinics, our experienced artists will work with you to determine the best approach for your unique needs and desired outcome. We use the highest quality pigments and tools to ensure beautiful, long-lasting results.
Individuals who visit Elizabeth Oakes Clinic for either of these treatments can expect a thorough consultation with one of our highly trained and experienced technicians. The consultation includes:
A discussion of your desired look.
Reviewing your skin type.
Determining the best shape and colour for your brows.
The procedure itself is performed in a clean, comfortable environment using only one-time-use sterile equipment, ensuring your safety and satisfaction.
After the procedure, individuals will need to follow specific aftercare instructions to ensure optimal healing and results.
Aftercare Instructions
Proper aftercare is essential to ensure the best results and longevity of your new brows. Here are some key aftercare instructions:
Do not touch the healing pigmented area with your fingers: They may have bacteria on them and create an infection.
Apply a thin layer of Vaseline 2 times daily: Use a clean cotton swab to apply the Vaseline, not your fingertips. Continue until the procedure area has healed (do not apply to the eye area).
Avoid make-up, tinting of lashes or brows, sun exposure, soap, sauna, steam, exercise, Jacuzzi, swimming in chlorine pools or in the ocean.
Before bathing: Gently apply a light coating of Vaseline on the procedure area using a clean cotton swab. Continue this regime until the procedure is completely healed.
Do not rub or traumatize the procedure area while it is healing: Pigment may be removed along with crusting tissue.
Use a ‘sun block’ after the procedure area has healed: This helps to prevent future fading of pigment colour.
All permanent makeup procedures are a two-step process consisting of the initial treatment and a top up treatment. The initial treatment establishes the brow design and pigment application, while the top up, typically scheduled between four weeks and six months after the initial procedure, allows for any necessary adjustments. A top up appointment is to put the finishing touches on the brows, fill in any gaps that may have appeared during the healing period, and add depth of colour or shading if necessary. Although not mandatory, it is advisable for individuals to consider a top up treatment to ensure a long-lasting effect on their brows.
